The 2022 Fifa World Cup is scheduled to be the 22nd running of the FIFA World Cup competition.FIFA World Cup is related International men’s football championship. It is scheduled to take place in Qatar from 20 November 2022 to 18 Dec 2022.This will be first world cup ever to be held in Arab world, and the second World cup held entirely in Asia after the 2002 tournament in South Korea and Japan. The tournament is schedule to be the last with 32 teams.

Qatar’s intense summer heat, this World Cup will be held from late November to mid-December, it will be played in a reduced timeframe of around 29 days.

The opening match will be contested between Qatar and Ecuador at AI Bayt Stadium,Al Khor, The final is due to be held on 18 December 2022,which is also Qatar Nation Day.

Host Selection in Fifa World Cup 2022

The bidding procedure to host the 2018 and 2022 Fifa world cup began in January 2009,

In the end, there were five bids for the 2022 Fifa World Cup: Australia, Japan, Qatar, South Korea and the United States, The twenty two member Fifa Executive Committee convened in Zurich on 2 December 2010 to vote to select the hosts of both tournaments. Two FIFA executive committee members were suspended before the vote in relation to allegation of corruption regarding their votes. The decision to host the 2022 world cup in Qatar, Which was graded as having high operational risk generated critism from media commentators. It has been criticized by many as being part of the FIFA corruption scandals.

Tie-breaking criteria for group play

The ranking of teams in the group stage is determined as follows

  1. Points obtained in all group matches;
  2. Goal difference in all group matches;
  3. Number of goals scored in all group matches;
  4. Points obtained in the matches played between the teams in question;
  5. Goal difference in the matches played between the teams in question;
  6. Number of goals scored in the matches played between the teams in question;
  7. Fair play points in all group matches (only one deduction can be applied to a player in a single match):
    1. Yellow card: −1 point;
    1. Indirect red card (second yellow card): −3 points;
    1. Direct red card: −4 points;
    1. Yellow card and direct red card: −5 points;
  8. Drawing of lots.
